# Editing dashboards

Rename a dashboard, move and resize its cards, ask Jason to change, add or remove a card, organise sections, and set up the filter row.

Jason builds every card on a dashboard, and you arrange them. Moving, resizing, removing cards and managing sections and filters are instant and need no conversation. Changing what a card shows, or adding a new one, is a request to Jason that he carries out in the Jason sidebar while you watch.

## Edit mode

Press **Edit dashboard** at the top right of the dashboard. The button changes to **Done editing**; press it again when you are finished. Changes save as you make them, so there is nothing else to confirm.

In edit mode:

*   The dashboard’s name becomes a text box.
*   Each card shows a drag handle, a resize edge on its right side, and **Change** and **Remove** buttons in place of **ⓘ**.
*   **\+ Add widget** tiles fill the gaps in each section.
*   Section headings get a drag handle, **Rename** and **Delete**, and **\+ Add section** appears at the bottom of the page.
*   The filter row shows **Add filter**, and clicking a filter chip edits the filter instead of setting it.
*   Clicking a chart value no longer asks Jason; edit mode is for arranging.

Edit mode is not offered on shared links.

## Renaming the dashboard

Click the name, type, and press Enter or click away. Escape puts the old name back. Names can be up to 255 characters.

## Moving and resizing cards

*   **Move.** Drag a card by the handle to the left of its title. The other cards make room to show where it will land. Cards move within their own section.
*   **Resize.** Drag the card’s right edge. Widths snap to 3, 4, 6, 8 or 12 of the twelve grid columns: a quarter, a third, a half, two thirds or the full width.

Both save when you let go. On narrow screens the grid stacks into one column, whatever the widths.

## Changing a card

Press **Change** on a card to open **Change “{card}”**.

Change a card by rewriting its description. Jason rebuilds it in the same place.

The box holds the card’s description: one or two sentences saying what it shows and how. Rewrite it to say what you want instead, then press **Send to Jason** (or Cmd/Ctrl+Enter). The button stays disabled until the text differs from the current description.

The Jason sidebar opens with your request, the card dims while Jason works on it, and the page reloads with the new card when he is done. The card keeps its place and its width.

## Removing a card

Press **Remove** on a card. The confirmation reads “Remove “{card}”?”. Press **Remove** and the card disappears from the dashboard straight away. Jason takes it out of the dashboard for good the next time he changes it.

## Adding a card

Press a **\+ Add widget** tile. The tiles sit where a row of cards has room left, at the end of each section, and in any empty section. The width of the tile you pick is the width the new card gets.

1.  **Describe the card.** The **Add a widget** dialog names where it will go (“After “Coverage by retailer”, in Pricing”). Type what it should show, or pick one of the **Suggestions**. They are written from the charts the dashboard already has and the columns it can use, so they propose what is missing. **Attach** a file if it helps.
2.  **Press Add widget.** A placeholder reading “Jason is building this” takes the slot at once, and the Jason sidebar opens with your request.
3.  **Wait for Jason.** When he is done, the page reloads with the new card in the placeholder’s place. To give up on it, press the **×** on the placeholder in edit mode.

## Sections

Sections are the headed groups of cards on a dashboard.

| Action | How | What happens |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Rename | The pencil beside the heading | The heading becomes a text box. Enter or clicking away saves; Escape cancels. Up to 120 characters. |
| Move | Drag the handle to the left of the heading | The whole section moves with its cards. |
| Delete | The bin beside the heading | The section and its cards are hidden. A Restore {section} section button takes its place in edit mode. |
| Add section | + Add section at the bottom of the page | Adds an empty section called “New section”, ready to rename. It has one full-width + Add widget tile. |

## Filters

Filters are the chips under the dashboard’s title that narrow every card at once. In edit mode you can add up to eight. With none yet, the row reads “Filters narrow every chart”.

Add a filter. Pick a column; the dialog shows which of the dashboard's datasets have it.

1.  **Press Add filter.** A panel titled **Add a filter** opens with the question “Filter by which column?” and a list of every column in the dashboard’s datasets, each with the datasets that carry it. Type to narrow the list.
2.  **Pick a column.** The panel then shows the fields below.
3.  **Press Add filter** to save. The chip appears in the row, set to **All**.

| Field | Values | Default | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Column | Any column in the dashboard’s datasets | The one you picked | Change goes back to the column list. |
| Name | Up to 120 characters | The column name in words (retailer_name becomes “Retailer name”) | What the chip says. |

To change a filter, click its chip in edit mode. The same panel opens, titled **Edit filter**, with **Save** and **Remove**. Removing a filter clears any value set for it. If a dataset loses the column, the panel says “No dataset on this dashboard has a “{column}” column any more.”

Filters apply beneath every card’s query, so they work on cards Jason wrote before the filter existed. A card whose dataset lacks the column is not affected.

## Asking Jason for bigger changes

Anything beyond one card is a conversation. Open the Jason sidebar on the dashboard and describe the change: new sections, a different grouping across several cards, an entity page with links from a table, or fixing charts that fail. Jason edits the dashboard and the page reloads when his turn ends.

> Split this into two sections, Pricing and Availability, and add a Retailer filter and a Category filter.

> The Coverage by retailer card says 2 of 9 failing. Fix the queries that fail against today’s data.
